Run for the Pink: The 2026 Essex County Cherry Blossom 10K
Spring in North Jersey hits different. The gray skies finally clear up. The air gets just a little bit warmer. And then it happens. Branch Brook Park explodes into a massive cloud of pink and white. It is arguably the best time of year to be in Essex County.
If you have been looking for an excuse to get outside, this is it. The Essex County Cherry Blossom 10K Run returns on April 12, 2026. It is not just a race. It is a tradition.
You run through history here. You run through thousands of blooming trees. The energy is absolutely electric.
Why Branch Brook Park Steals the Show
Most people think Washington D.C. holds the title for cherry blossoms. They are wrong. Branch Brook Park in Newark and Belleville actually has a larger and more diverse collection. We are talking about thousands of trees.
The park was designed by the Olmsted Brothers firm. They are the same visionaries behind Central Park. It shows. The winding paths and open fields make it a perfect spot for runners.
During the bloom season, the park transforms. It feels like a movie set. The 10K course takes you right through the heart of it all. You get the best views while your heart pumps. It beats running on a treadmill any day of the week.
Race Day Details You Need
Mark your calendar for Sunday, April 12, 2026. The race kicks off at 10:00 AM sharp. You should aim to get there early though. The vibe before the starting gun is worth soaking in.
Packet pickup happens right on site that morning. You can grab your gear between 8:00 AM and 9:45 AM at the Cherry Blossom Welcome Center. It is located in the parking lot under a large tent. You cannot miss it.
Registration is open now. If you sign up early, the fee is $45. Wait until race day and it jumps to $50. Members of USATF New Jersey get a slight discount at $40 for advance signup.
There is also a great cause attached to your sweat. Three dollars from every entry goes directly to Special Olympics New Jersey. You get to improve your health and support an incredible organization at the same time.
The Gear and The Goods
Everyone loves race swag. The organizers know this.
You get a commemorative medal just for crossing the finish line. It is a nice piece of hardware to hang on your wall.
Shirts are available too. They hand them out on a first come basis. If you are fast enough on the course, you might snag more than just a shirt. The top three overall finishers for men and women take home a gift certificate and a hoodie.
Age category winners get hoodies too. It is a nice incentive to push your pace a little harder this year.
Living the Essex County Lifestyle
Events like this are why people buy homes in Essex County. You have urban convenience mixed with incredible green spaces. Branch Brook Park is a massive asset for property values in Newark, Belleville, and the surrounding areas.
Living near this park means you have access to nature all year round. The cherry blossoms are the highlight, sure. But the trails are open every season.
We see a lot of buyers moving from the city who want this exact balance. They want a yard, but they also want big public parks. They want community events. The Cherry Blossom Festival delivers all of that. It brings neighbors together. It gets people moving. It showcases the absolute beauty of North Jersey real estate.
Whether you are a serious runner or just someone who wants a scenic jog, you should be there. The petals will be falling. The crowds will be cheering. It is a perfect Sunday in Jersey.
